We may all resort to vote buying if electorates prioritise such over development – Asiedu Nketiah

Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has expressed concerns about voters prioritizing personal incentives over long-term development, suggesting that this could lead the opposition party to reconsider its campaign strategy. Speaking during a three-day tour of the Ashanti Region, Nketiah highlighted the NDC’s frustration with the ruling government’s alleged use of inducements to maintain political power.

“We could divert funds from building roads, like the one from Akomadan Afrancho to Kyiraa, and instead invest in items like cutlasses, Maggi cubes, and chickens to buy votes if that’s what voters value,” Nketiah remarked to party supporters in Akomadan Afrancho. He urged constituents to recognize the importance of supporting leaders focused on sustainable development rather than personal gains, warning that this trend could undermine national progress.

The NDC Chair also emphasized that loyalist regions often face neglect from politicians who choose to invest resources in areas where they lack strong support, further noting that misplaced loyalty could result in underdevelopment.

In stops at several communities in Offinso North and South and Afigya Kwabre North and South, Nketiah urged for peaceful and transparent elections, underscoring that a fair electoral process largely depends on the government’s commitment to upholding order. He criticized the current government, alleging a rise in lawlessness and selective enforcement, pointing out incidents where political allies are shielded from accountability.

Nketiah’s tour aims to engage with communities about the NDC’s achievements and its manifesto, calling for a return to an administration focused on equitable development and national stability.
